Chahar-Shanbeh Soori

Chahar-Shanbeh Soori

Tuesday, March 19, 2019 until Wednesday, March 20, 2019

The first tradition of New Year celebrations is "Chahar-Shanbeh Soori". It takes place before Saal Tahvil, the last Wednesday of the year, well, actually, Tuesday night! People set fire good, young and old jump over the fires with songs and gestures of joy, such as: (Sorkhi and to az man) Give me your beautiful red color (Zardi and man az to) and take back my sickly pallor! It means: I will give you my yellow color (signs of illness), and you give me your fiery red color (sign of sanity). This is a purification ritual and 'suri' itself means red and burning.

Greetings No-Rooz:
No-Rooz Mobarak (Happy No-Rooz, happy in the rooz);
Eid-eh Shoma Mobarak (Happy New Year to you);
No-Rooz Pirooz (Wishing you a Happy New Year);
