The contest where he won the title was held in Changsha, Hunan Province, in south-central China.
The contest is the most prestigious of its kind in chemometrics and this year it was held in Asia for the first time.
He received the award for his leading work in using new chemometric methods to analyze complex data from a new generation of chromatography systems.
