Global handicrafts cities should introduce brands

CBI to hold artworks exhibition in Teheran Sept. 3-7



Deputy head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said cities which have been registered globally in the handicraft sector should take steps to introduce their brands worldwide.
Bahman Namvar-Motlaq further said that Isfahan as the city of handicrafts, Tabriz as the carpet city, Hamedan as the ceramic city and Mashhad as the gemstone city have been globally registered.
Also, Central Bank of Iran (CBI) will hold a handicraft exhibition in Tehran during Sept. 3-7 to increase trade in handiworks and boost handicraft markets.
The upcoming event could be effective in empowering the artisans and making all walks of society familiar with Iranian arts.
Twelve artisans from the provinces of Isfahan, East Azarbaijan, Alborz and Tehran will take part in the five-day exhibition. They will display works in the fields of marquetry, engraving, turquoise fixing, kilim weaving, glass blowing, filigree work, silver products, textiles and leather products.
In related news, managing director of Tehran Handicrafts Cooperatives Unions said handicrafts produced by the unions would be part of the commodity basket for households to support the handicrafts sector.
Khatereh Ostad-Rezaei said that two commodity baskets of domestically-produced goods have been considered for young couples: The first includes 50 million rials worth of handicrafts while the other is worth 10 million rials.
She said in line with materializing the goals of resistance economy in all industrial sectors, the handicraft sector also needs support.
