Iran exports over 4.2b tons of mineral products in 6 months

Iran exported more than 4.2 billion tons of mineral products, valued at over $647.5 million, in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-October 22).

Exported items mainly consisted of salt, sulfur, chalk, lime, and cement, as well as bituminous products, the ISNA news agency reported on Wednesday.

Iranian Industry, Mining, and Trade Minister Mohammad Reza Ne’matzadeh has said Iran is planning to boost mineral exports to about $5 billion annually within the framework of the Sixth Five-Year Development Plan, which ends in 2020.

About 5,000 mines are being exploited in the country and the number of foreign companies which are ready to participate in Iran’s mining projects is on the rise, according to Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization Managing Director Mehdi Karbasian.

Iran is one of the top 15 countries in the world in regard to mineral reserves and exports its industrial and mineral products to 159 countries, including Iraq, China, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Afghanistan, he stated.
